THESE ELECTRIC LIVES – INDIE WEEK CANADA 2010 WINNERS
They should be believing they’ll be touring Ireland in Spring 2011
It looks like These Electric Lives’ Top Secret Indie Week rehearsal (as seen on Youtube) has paid off! Toronto’s These Electric Lives are the winners of Indie Week Canada 2010, and they’ve won what is perhaps the most valuable prize to Canadian indie artists in this day and age: A tour of another country. In the Spring of 2011, These Electric Lives will be headlining the touring festival Indie Week Ireland.
Like the pros they are, These Electric Lives powered through a total of four Indie Week performances (including their official judged showcase and the Semi-Finals, both of which they won).
The week culminated at the Finals on Sunday, October 17th at Tattoo Rock Parlour where they showcased before a host of A-list industry judges including Shawn Frank (The Envy), Adam Fujiki (Manager A&R Sony), Ron Hawkins (Lowest of the Low), Sean Jones (Recording artist, WIDEawake Entertainment Group), Cheryl Link (Director of Synchronization Licensing and Creative Manager at Peermusic Canada Inc.), John Payne (President, WIDEawake Entertainment Group) and Barbara Sedun (Sr. VP EMI Publishing).
As always there was a share of controversy and a re-count was demanded, but These Electric Lives made it out on top. The judges scores varied extensively with A Primitive Evolution and Serena Pryne & The Mandevilles tying for second place.
Says Gary Peter of These Electric Lives:
“Winning Indie Week was the cherry on top of a sweet, sweet Sunday! We played 4 hectic shows in 5 days with a brand new drummer who had to learn our songs in a hurry (thanks Robbie!). We were really happy with every performance and would have felt really good about ourselves even if we didn’t win. We also made some serious industry connections before the final night. So to go through all that on very little sleep and win the trip to Ireland? Crazy stuff. Thanks Indie Week! Ireland here we come!”
With vocals that evoke Robert Smith of The Cure and some guitar licks reminiscent of U2, These Electric Lives will do very well in Ireland, as their sound is a perfect fit for the Irish music scene. Watch for the highlight of an already fruitful career!

Biography
Described as making music that bridges the gap between electro-pop/new wave and supercharged indie-rock, These Electric Lives play their own brand of melodic dance rock. TEL’s exciting and energetic live show consistently delivers uplifting and danceable anthems fueled by an intensity of honest emotion and the powerful soaring voice of lead singer Mark Stanfield.
After gaining the attention of fans and industry alike with their homemade Learn By Doing EP, the Toronto, Canada based quartet began working with Juno-nominated producer João Carvalho, releasing their critically acclaimed, self-titled debut EP in 2007. The underground hit “We Should Be Believing” charted regularly on college and internet radio stations around the globe.
These Electric Lives’ infectious and catchy songs have become increasingly popular with DJs and producers in Canada, the U.S., and Europe, prompting the release of a TEL remix album in 2008. Their high energy live sets have earned them praise and the opportunity to share the stage with the likes of Boxer Rebellion (UK), Mystery Jets (UK), Asobi Seksu (NYC), Beast (Montreal) and Bang Lime (members of Metric). The band has performed on the national TV show MTV Live and was featured on AUX TV's Band Foto.
Following the success of their recently-released EP, We See Light…, and taking the win at Indie Week Canada, These Electric Lives embarked on their first ever tour of the UK and Ireland in May 2011. Stops included Dublin, Belfast, Manchester, Liverpool and London. The band was honored to headline Indie Week Ireland and to be a part of the much anticipated Canadian Blast showcase at Liverpool Sound City.
In latest news, These Electric Lives will launch their newest single, a dance-centric version of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game”, at Canadian Music Week 2012. “Hit The Ground Running” was recently featured on an episode of Degrassi: New Beginnings. Swedish label, Bonerizing Records has just released “Tell Me”, a dance track collaboration featuring These Electric Lives with New Zealand producer Yuhei Kubo. The song made its debut on Beatport’s Must Hear Track list. Looking forward to Fall 2012, the band is now focusing themselves on the studio, and is all set to create their highly anticipated full-length album.
